Personalized Injury Rehabilitation
A competitive tennis player sought our help after experiencing persistent shoulder pain and weakness. The pain had gradually intensified over several months, particularly during his serves and backhand swings, both motions that are crucial to the sport. He reported a dull ache in the shoulder, which worsened with overhead movements and often disrupted his sleep. At his initial evaluation, we observed a limited range of motion in the shoulder, weakness in external rotation, and tenderness around the rotator cuff muscles.
The initial phase of treatment focused on pain management and inflammation control at the affected site. This involved manual therapy techniques, such as joint mobilizations and soft tissue massage, to improve mobility and alleviate discomfort.
As his pain subsided, we gradually introduced and increased strengthening exercises for the rotator cuff, shoulder blade, and surrounding muscles. This included exercises with resistance bands, light weights, and bodyweight movements. We emphasized proper form and technique to ensure safe and effective muscle activation.
Throughout the rehabilitation process, we educated him on the importance of proper warm-up and cool-down routines and injury prevention strategies. We also monitored his progress closely to make adjustments to the program as needed so we could optimize his recovery.
With consistent therapy, he experienced significant improvement in pain, range of motion, and strength. He was able to return to tennis practice and gradually increased his activity level under our guidance.
